What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Modern car keys come with unique chips that are unique to each vehicle, which is not the case with older keys. This keeps thieves from taking the key and putting it in the car.

Transponder Codes

The name implies that transponders transmit an encoded signal that contains the four-digit code when it is questioned by air traffic control. The signal is referred to as the SQUAWK code and it is the basis of identification of aircraft on radar screens. It can also be used to send specific messages to the air traffic control system in a crisis or to alert controllers of changing weather conditions.
